Sum Calculator
Long addition calculator quickly finds the total sum of a series of numbers using the long addition method. Our addition calculator not only provides long addition results but it gives more details about the numbers. This sum calculator detects the maximum & minimum number from given data.
Long Addition Method
Long addition method is a conventional way to add numbers for small & long digits. In this method write the numbers in a column format for addition and align them by place value (ones, tens, hundreds, etc,.).
The arrangement of numbers in column format is known as column addition method. To add the number by the long addition method follow the below steps:
Steps to Perform Long Addition
- First, arrange all numbers in column format by placing one number below the other and aligning the digits according to their place values.
- Start the addition of numbers from the right side by adding the digits of the one’s column.
- If the sum of the column number is two or more two digits, or greater than 9 (such as 10, 12, 115, etc.) then take the left side digit as carry at top of next column to move from right to left.
- Now, move to the next column (tens, hundreds, etc.) and repeat the process until all columns are added. Also, add the carry if the sum of the numbers in two or more digits.
- After adding all digits by accounting all carries get the final result which is the total sum.
For an understanding of the above long addition method step see the below examples.
How to do Long Addition?
If you want to perform the sum/long addition without using adding calculator, then follow the below long addition example process. In these examples, perform the long addition manually for the series of whole numbers and decimal numbers.
Long Addition of Whole Numbers
Here, perform the long addition for the whole number by stacking numbers in column form. The total sum value is determined by using the column addition methods with the detailed steps.
Example: What is the sum of the following whole numbers?
1120, 9623, 794, 324, 98
Solution:
Step 1: Stack all numbers and align them according to the place value.
Step 2: Now, add the numbers from the right to the left column using the addition rule and apply the carry of a two-digit number to the next column.
For example: if the sum of numbers is 13, then place 3 under the using column and take carry 1 to the next column.
Thus, the total sum is “1120 + 9623 + 794 + 324 + 98 = 11959”. For instant results use our above large number calculator that provides the accurate answer in seconds.
Long Addition of Decimal Numbers
To find the sum of decimal numbers by long addition is the same as the process of finding the long addition of the whole numbers with just minor changes.
In this method, place values in column format same as the whole number but set the decimal points with exact places by adding the extra column between the values. For clarification see the below example.
Example: Find the sum of the following decimal numbers.
12.34, 234.6, 567.8, 245.4, 345.004.
Solution:
Step 1: Stack all decimal numbers by aligning them according to the place value and place the decimal point.
Step 2: Sum up all values and take the carry to the next left-side column, if the sum is in two digits.
Thus, the sum of “12.34 + 234.6 + 567.8 + 245.4 + 345.004 = 1405.144”. To verify this summed result use our long addition calculator.
