How does Under Root Calculator works?

  1. 1. Enter the degree n (index) of the root. (e.g. 2,3,4).
  2. 2. Enter the number x (radicand) you want to find the root of.
  3. 3. Press the Calculate button to find roots of the number.
  4. 4. Click the Clear button to reset the root finder and enter the new inputs.

What is Root (Nth)?

An nth root of a number x is a value r that, when raised to the power of n (multiplied by itself n times), equals x. The n is called the index, the number x is the radicand, and the entire expression is a radical.

Notation:

The nth root is written using the radical symbol (ⁿ√x = y) with the index n placed in the "V" of the symbol.

  • n is called the index.
  • Number x is the radicand.
  • The entire expression is a radical.

 How to Find Roots?

There is no specific method to calculate the root value of any number. You can find and guess by following the given steps:

  1. Write the number you want to find the under root of.
  2. Choose the degree (n). For example, 2 for the square root, 3 for the cube root, and 4 for the fourth root.
  3. Guess a close value that could be the root.
  4. Multiply your guess by itself the required number of times.
  5. Compare the result with your original number. If the product is smaller than try a slightly larger guess. If it’s larger than try a smaller number.
  6.  Continue adjusting until you get as close as possible to the actual number.

Example:

Find the 4th root of 16.

Solution:

Write the number that, when multiplied by 4, gives 16.

Try the 2: 2×2×2×2=16.

So, the 4th root of 16 is 2.

For large or decimal numbers, manual calculation can take time. That’s why using the above Root Calculator is a faster and more accurate way to find results instantly.
